April Events with Frederick CUUPS

Sunday, April 7th, 1 pm: Introduction to Heathenry

Heathens are Pagans that follow the ancient Norse pantheon. Norse beliefs were widespread throughout the Scandinavian countries of northern Europe, Germany, Ireland, Iceland, the Mediterranean, and even North America.

This workshop will cover the basics of the modern belief structure known as Heathenry. You will learn a basic overview of Heathen Cosmology, Gods, and ritual practice. This will in turn allow you to delve further into this spiritual practice with a good understanding of “what to do” and “what not to do.”

No prior knowledge of Heathen beliefs or practices is necessary. This workshop will be led by Chris Kackley.  Recommended donation: $10.  Facebook event here.

Friday, April 12th, 7:45 pm: Frederick CUUPS April Open Blót (Heathen Ceremony)

Elk Ridge Kindred is a small, local group who practice the Norse
traditions of Heathenry. Join Frederick CUUPS for a blót (pronounced
blōt), which is a traditional way of toasting and honoring Deity and
our ancestors. While open to the public, space is limited so we are
asking that people make reservations by emailing
ElkRidgeKindred@gmail.com if you wish to attend.

Sunday, April 14th, 10:30 am: April Earth Centered Spirituality Service

Our Earth-centered Spirituality Group meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month in the Chapel at 10:30 am. This time provides an opportunity to focus on the Sixth Source of Unitarian Universalism: “Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.” Join us for our April meeting (led by Channa & Heather).

Thursday, April 18th, 6 pm: Spring Labyrinth Cleanup

Time to get the Labyrinth ready for outdoor walks! Please bring garden tools to help clear off and tidy the labyrinth courtyard. The best tool for clearing the bricks is a string trimmer – please bring one if you have it.

Friday, April 18th, 8 pm: April Full Moon Labyrinth Walk

Come enjoy the beauty and peace of the Labyrinth by the light of the full moon! Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor, drumming walk. The first half hour will be a quiet walk, the remainder drumming, so feel free to bring hand drums and other percussion instruments. If you haven’t walked a Labyrinth before, there is no ceremony or ritual. A Labyrinth Walk is safe, open Sacred Space for personal exploration. Please plan to arrive by 9 pm to allow enough time for your walk. Recommended donation $5.

Monday, April 29th, 6:30 pm: Frederick CUUPS April Dark Moon Drum & Dance Circle

Dance and drum your way into Spring energy, connect with the rhythm and learn some new grooves with percussionist Rachel Elizabeth. The Dark Moon Drum Circle will begin with a brief workshop to help people get comfortable playing together. A drum circle is a celebration of life, community, and music-making in the moment. Please bring hand drums, shakers and other hand percussion. A few small hand drums will be available if you do not have your own. Feel free to bring snacks/drinks for yourself or to share. Dancers welcome.
