Political Magick: Magick for the Good of the Polis
Wednesday, October 14th, 7 PM
With Gwendolyn Reece

We are in challenging times in which many of us are concerned about our political systems and want to be of service and defend our Democracy. Gwendolyn Reece focuses much of her magickal effort on magick for the Good of the Polis as part of her work with Athena and Apollon. This workshop gives a framework for political magick, including a discussion of ethics. Some techniques and contacts are included and a ritual is provided for adaptation. Time will also be given for discussion.
This class will be offered on Zoom. Please email UUCFLibrary@gmail.com for the link.  Facebook event here.
Recommended donation for class is $10.

Frederick CUUPS Samhain Ritual (Online Only)
Saturday, October 24th, 7 PM

Join Frederick CUUPS for an open streaming Samhain Ritual! Samhain falls at the time of year the light noticeably fades. In this season, Pagans honor death as a part of the sacred circle of life and remember those who have gone before.

Here is the Zoom link

Rather than a linear ritual that follows a pattern we all engage with at the same time, FCUUPS Samhain is a virtual place of stillness, remembrance, reflection, and release that will be held from 7 to 9 PM. The ritual offering is drop-in – you are welcome to stay as long as you would like. You can use the ritual as a time of contemplation or as background to a Dumb Supper or other personal ritual.

There will be three sacred spaces we are working this Samhain. The first is a Releasing Fire. If you would like to release a shadow or an obstacle to growth from this past season, please write/draw that energy onto a piece of paper. Mail your releasing item, in a sealed envelope (these will never be opened) to:

FCUUPS Samhain
c/o The UUCF
4880 Elmer Derr Road
Frederick, MD 21703

Our Releasing Fire Guide will burn these letters, sprinkling purifying herbs in between each, over the course of the ritual. They will not be opened or read. EVER.

The second space is an Ancestral Fire. Our Guides at the Ancestral Fire will be speaking aloud the names of the beloved dead we wish to honor, accompanying each name with an offering of grain. If you would like us to honor an Ancestor for you, please email that name to CUUPS@FrederickUU.org OR simply write the name into the chat window during the streaming ritual.

The third space is an Ancestral Altar. Our Guide there will be holding space and sharing the feed of our beautiful altar.

Recommended donation is $5.
To make a donation for the ritual, go to: http://www.frederickuu.org/about/Support_UUCF

Winternights: Heathenry, the Ancestors, and the Winter Season
Thursday, October 29th, 7 PM

Join Chris of Elk Ridge Kindred and members of the Frederick CUUPS community for a workshop on the pre-Christian holiday of Winternights.
Winternights was celebrated in pre-Christian Scandinavia and may have been one of the most important festivals of the year. It marks the end of summer, the start of the winter, and the beginning of a new year. In this workshop we will look at what the Lore says about this festival, we’ll try to dig up some folk traditions, and look at how we can take those and create a holiday that honors the past and fits in with the present.
Facebook event here. This class will be offered on Zoom. Please email CUUPS@FrederickUU.org for the Zoom link.
Recommended donation is $10. To make a donation, visit:
